Non-invasive Neonatal Biomarker Monitoring Research Group aims to develop novel method to non-invasively and continuously detect biomarkers such as glucose, lactate, pyruvate etc. in preterm neonates.
Preterm babies are vulnerable, and it is important to monitor biomarkers that can indicate their condition. Unfortunately, their care is further challenged by the current use of invasive blood sampling, which can lead to complications such as anaemia and infection. In response to these challenges, we are currently focused on developing a non-invasive method for this population.
We are working on 3 main projects:
Development of a new non-invasive method to sample interstitial fluid
Investigation of optical and electrochemical methods for sample analysis
Scaling of the analysis to a compact lab-on-a-chip device
Our group is interested in both instrumentation development and its translation to clinics. For the latter, we firtsly aim to investigate our methods in healthy adults volunteers. Later, when the system will be complete, we are planning to translate it to the premature population.
